The fight with the monoliths is a tough one, especially as we are without Ershin. They have quite a arsenal of elemental attacks and regeneration, so we have to protect accordingly.
In the beginning, I am showing equip so you can see what elements are halved by who. Ranger Garb adds Fire resistance, Mage's Robes adds magic resistance throughout the board. Wards and the Ring of Wind protect from their respective element.
All monliths begin with level 1 magic in their arsenal, but if the opposing type is killed (wind and earth, water and fire) they power up to level 2 magic. The worst, however, is if magic is used versus all characters.
Wind and Fire Lv 1 are Single, Lv 2 are all. Earth on the other hand starts with all and becomes single. Water is always single target. This brings me to the kill order of Wind, Earth, Fire, Water, ignoring regeneration for now.
Regeneration becomes inactive in a circle, but as you will see it is not that big of a bummer as we deal quite the heavy damage. The fight itself took a few tries because the monliths are deadly with physical attacks in the first 2 turns, but after that it is basically won. Ryu gains 5 more level afterwards.

Yet another Fou-Lu battle! Hey, I recognize this thing from somewhere... well, Fou-Lu does not have apples, so lets just stomp it. Focus up, attack, heal when needed. How to heal you might ask? Fou-Lu has random battles available this time around! And what's even better, there are SuperVitamin on his! Well, I collected quite a few for his future battles. Not needed for this specific one anyway.

But well, for the next one. Or not? Marl summons some guards up, which we do not want to kill until the end due to re-summons and EXP-spillover to Ryu. Again, this is mostly a focus and heal up battle, but counters can screw up quite a bit with the adds and the total damage taken is not that low either. Using SuperVitamins from outside battlefields is definitely advised at some point (remember our rule against dragons for most battles) though I barely managed to do without this time around, having kept track of Marls HP.

  • Can you confirm that characters' spot in the active party doesn't affect how often they're targeted by enemy attacks (unlike, say, in BoF2 and in some positions in BoF3)?

Also, good to see you again.

  • @MoogleBoss At least I do not know about a mechanic like that, though this game is much less documented then the other parts are.

And yeah, good to be back to playing as well, though this vid was actually recorded a while ago. I am about to face Won-qu, collected frost resistance gear already but still up for weaponry. Also documenting my progress (with a lot of information not found in any guide) so I might actually start working on guides for bof3 and 4 one of these days.

Sounds great. If you ever complete your documentation, you could put the FAQs up for others to follow in your steps.
