On June 26, 2009, the SFMTA Board unanimously voted YES on an ambitious Bike Plan and gave the green light to 45 new bike lanes on streets such as 5th, 17th, Townsend, Kirkham, Alemany, San Jose, and Portola (see the full list of victories at http://www.sfbike.org/56).

This historic victory is the result of more than three years of SFBC advocacy, including an unprecedented turnout of more than 200 SFBC members at Friday's packed hearing, thousands of you sending letters of support to the city, and countless hours of grassroots organizing by committed SFBC volunteers and staff. Together, we did it! See photos of the victorious at http://www.flickr.com/photos/sfbike/sets/72157620466753779/.

This historic decision means that the City is on track to overturn the 3-year-old bike plan injunction and nearly double -- yes double! -- the number of bike lanes on our streets. These improvements will also push San Francisco towards being one of North Americas most bicycle-friendly cities and encourage tens of thousands of people to bicycle more often.

Help us make these new bike lanes a reality as soon as possible. Give a special contribution today of $25, $50, or $100 or more to keep the SFBC's efforts moving forward to complete the Citywide Bike Network. Donate now at: http://www.sfbike.org/specialgift
