Algonquin Outfitters can show you how to easily lift a canoe to carry it on the portage. Often a two person lift is easiest and safest but it's always easiest to only have one person carry or portage the canoe.

Portage or portaging refers to the practice of carrying watercraft or cargo over land to avoid river obstacles, or between two bodies of water. A place where this carrying occurs is also called a portage; a person doing the carrying is called a porter.

The English word portage is derived from the French noun "portage" and verb "porter" : to carry. Early French explorers ventured in New France and French Louisiana encountered many rapids and cascades. The Amerindians carried their canoes over land to avoid river obstacles. The French coureurs des bois (or voyageurs) and trappers used the French word "portage".

  • типа америка... женщину нагрузил поклажей, типа так и должно быть.

Мог бы и сам лодку утащить. что называется " а вдруг война, а я уставши"

  • @mrRebalko My wife is also quite a accomplished canoeist, she's not only is an excellent bow paddler but she also portages our canoe and carries a fully loaded canoe pack on our trips. Having light weight gear like this 39lb Swift Prospector canoe makes every trip more enjoyable.

  • @mrRebalko Моя жена тоже вполне достигнуто каноист, она не только является прекрасным гребца лук, но она также волоков наши каноэ и несет полной загрузке каноэ пакет на наши поездки. Имея легкий вес механизма, как это 39lb Swift Prospector каноэ делает каждую поездку более приятной.

  • 0:06 i'd like to see him do this with my ~80lb old town disco

  • @Cambone13 No thank you.. We used to have some old 80lb canoes in our rental fleet and I much prefer the new 40lb canoes. The canoe shown in this video is a Swift Prospector 16'. It weighs just 39lbs and paddles like a dream too.

  • very helpful, thankyou!

  • Good question Trevor6744, the yoke pad that is shown on our canoe is available at Algonquin Outfitters for rent or to purchase. It's manufactured by Holligan Gear. In my words, "the best yoke pad produced". Works very well, I have one personally

  • where do you get the shoulder pad things?
