A 24-year-old University of Nevada, Reno student is in the Renown Medical Center with major injuries after being hit by a car Saturday night, Reno police said.

Police are searching for the suspect who hit the woman with his car. Witnesses described the suspect as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, thin build, early 20s with a short brown crew cut and a clean-shaven face.

The car is described as a red 1990s model Toyota Celica with tinted windows and black rims.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white design and blue jeans.

The suspect allegedly hit the victim while she was on the crosswalk of 11th and Sierra streets at about 1 a.m. Saturday. After hitting her, he got out of his car, got back into the car and drove away.

Detective Jerry Follett of the Reno Police Department said about 10 people witnessed the accident, which is currently under open investigation. He said police believe the woman is an exchange student at UNR.

People with information on the case can call Secret Witness at 775-322-4900 or Follett at 775-334-2141.
