  • For those of you who are unaware of the type of person, and MP, that David Willetts is - I had the misfortune to grow up in a very underpriveledged area in his Havant constituency called Leigh Park. When he was asked in an interview with the News how he thought the problems could be addressed, he commented "I don't care about Leigh Park." Had he chosen to speak at Oxford when I was there, I would have had shared the feelings of these students. It's good that he see the elite are outraged.

  • Willetts and his ilk have any number of opportunities eah week to peddle their/the party line. An exampe of theatrical opposition - good that students have taken chance to voice THEIR reasoned concerns. 'Free speech' is usually the point at which Powers that Be continue to dominate arena of debate to push the party line - when the apparatchiks expect to continue as usual, it's a coup de theatre to usurp those expectations. A long time since I expected to be proud of alumni of Alma Mater

  • @Nate770

A thousand times this. Inelegantly worded and clumsily executed. The work of pomposity rather than protest.

  • What is the point of disrupting him? Let him speak and have a reasoned and proper debate.

  • JESUS DUDE, if you're gonna do the human microphone thing, tailor your speech for it. This is far too "wordy", too much fluffy-wuffy imagery and padding. Sounds more like some pretentious galvanizing victory speech than a protest. Protest should be strong and concise.
