being tall doesn't make you a good vaulter.

I can't believe the controversy this commercial is initiating. Binghamton is just publicizing their school through their star athlete. I don;t see what the big deal is. The school really inst that bad. I think this is very well done.

it looks pretty... but i think it strays away from the main idea. its basically just saying that my school is cool, accept it!!
i mean, no love lost for rory. he's a great pole vaulter. but stop packaging this school like a disney vacation.

Since its inception in NYS, a well-rounded public education has included much more than academics.
Rory earned his bachelor's degree in psychology and is now enrolled in Binghamton's MBA program. Similar success stories abound for other athlete-scholars. Very few college athletes go pro. Yet, they take away lifelong lessons learned in athletic competition into their personal lives and careers.

Congratulations, Rory, on becoming the first Binghamton athlete ever to win a NCAA Division I championship!
He concluded his collegiate athletic career in dramatic style at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships by winning the pole vault title with a height of 18 feet and half an inch at the meet held at the University of Arkansas.

i went to school at binghamton and never once got the advantage of pole vaulting. i remember a lot of the liberal arts departments were broke and downsizing, yet tuition was being raised and assistance to poor students was being cut. are they spending all their money on poles for vaulting???

Hi adamndirtyshame.
We aren't spending all our money on poles for vaulting.
Intercollegiate athletics use funds unrelated to and unavailable to academics.
Recently we have grown, following a number of years in the '90s with state budget cuts. Yet, more cuts could be in our future.
Learn how to help us continue to improve our academic excellence at think . binghamton . edu, where you can send letters to your NYS legislators in support of Binghamton's budget.

maybe the fact that the money that goes to pole vaulting and other games is unavailable to academics is the problem. isnt quality of education more important than vaulting oneself via pole? also, this commercial seems like it cost a pretty penny, how about spending some of that marketing money on actual academics rather than commercials? and what about the funds for paying staff people to spend time posting comments on youtube?

intercollegiate athletics are funded by revenue streams unrelated to academics and not available for use by academic departments. We strive to provide necessary resources to academics. For example, we have placed a high priority on finding an exceptional dean for Harpur College who will help shape the liberal arts so they thrive well into the future.
FWIW, this video was produced extremely affordably. Insofar as it helps draw better students, faculty and staff to Binghamton, it benefits all.
