Nicholas squinted his brown eyes, "Maybe it's because you're naturally evil."
Joseph sighed, almost sounding defeated, "Well Nick, why do you get upset so easily?"
Nicholas sat down on a nearby stoop, and Joseph and I stood watching him play with a daisy he had picked. "Because, she---" He looked up at me, "You say things so harshly. How else am I supposed to take them?"
"I do not, Nicholas!"
He looked at Joe, "Look at that, even the way she says my name spells B-I-T-C ---"
"Alright, alright Nichol-- Nick. Nick. Is that better?" He nodded, satisfied. "Now, MY problem, Joe."
Nick intervened with a sarcastic remark, "Contrary to your belief, things aren't always about you."
I inhaled a deep breath, ready to tell him off, "Excuse me?! You don't know anything! Things aren't about me enoug---" I exhaled and gulped powerfully, "Joseph, may I enlighten you about what my problem happens to be with your brother?"
Satisfied, Joe nodded in approval, "Yes you may."
"Okay, I liked him a---," I stated nonchalantly because i had convinced myself it was something of the past.
Nick cut me off, "You liked me?!"
Agitated, I answered, "Yes. I liked you. Anywa---"
Nicholas cut me off again, "I liked you!"
I stopped dead in my sentence and looked over at Nick, "Y-you, you liked me?" He nodded and I continued, "Well why didn't you ever say anything? I never knew."
"Well, people dont actually say 'I like you!' And because you were always so me to me. I thought you hated me. Well, apparently I was right. You said so yourself."
I shook my head in disbelief, "I never hated you, I could never hate anyone. I was mean because I liked you. I never knew how to show it."
"But you were mean to me this morning... and yesterday, and... just now." I nodded and his jaw dropped completely. My heart dropped to my knees, not because of what I had just revealed, (that too,) but because I took a glimpse of the enormous clock on a nearby building. Shit!
