Here's the video "Sonic the Hedgehog joins the Brawl!" showed at the Nintendo Conference Fall (NCF) 2007, also on this event Nintendo showed a video of the same name and revealed the japanese release date which is January 24th.
This video prove that Sonic will join Mario in the fight against the Subspace Army.
The theme song for this video was "Live and Learn" from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, probably because Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was the 1st Sonic game on a Nintendo console.

Sonic should be mute, i always thought of him as mute cosnidering he is a hedgehog. They purr a little and hiss when angry.

I confirmed, Sonic is not a SSBB secret character because he is not a Nintendo's character, he is a secret character because he is the best character in SSBB, after him is probably Meta Knight.

When first time I see this video back in 2007, I said "HOLY CRAP, THIS MOST BE A REALLY DREAM! come on! Sonic on SSB?"
