Me & my sister go for a walk... I break my thigh, she ends up in tears.

TRANSCRIPT

Well, I'll tell you, then, when I was a young girl, I live with my mother and my... parents, my

two brothers and sister. We lived down Stebbie [Stapleton] Lane. On this certain day, my s... Betty, that was her name, says... asks my mum... her mum if we could go out, and she says, "Yes, but", she says, "mind where you go and take care of her." Well, Bett insisted to go down the lane, which we did, and they were building a sewerage [works] and they'd got the lines along, and there's a... er... there was a big truck. And there were some boys there, and I stood on the cor... on the side, and these boys shoved the truck... up and knocked me down and broke my thigh. And this... there were some [al]lotments, and this man carried me up home, and bett were squealing and roaring all the way up, frit fear* of what my mother'd... were gonna say... and that, and I ended up in Leicester Royal Infirmary. And that's wh... al... what's happened... when I was s... lit... a young girl. So that's all I can tell you now.

* frit = frightened, scared; frit fear = really afraid

  • Can you put a transcript of what she is saying?

  • We have a saying: "She"'s the cat's mother! This is my own channel, although I don't do all the work:)

Good idea. I'll get that done for all the videos. Maybe I'll ask someone to do a video on our dialect too. What do you think of that?

  • Lizzie could you tell a story about what you heard about the Titanic when you was a young lady. I just toured the artifact tour in Houston and I would love to hear your accounts of what they said when you were younger are if it was a big story for years as I have heard back then. love, Margerie.

  • Well, it was 1912, so I think by the time I was a girl in the 1920s , it wasn't talked about so much. So many died in the first world war, it must have put the Titanic disaster out of people's minds. I will think about what people were talking about around here and do some videos on that.

  • Oh I love this what a beautiful video, I will be here on youtube for some time and on Share Now. I love you Lizzie!! So that's all I can tell you now... Awhhhh Lizzie. I love ya...
