Shoe analogy is just bizarre.

@TocMD With over 80,000 wines in the US market alone the vast majority of wine consumers are confused, inimidated and overwhelmed - even sygmatized for their wine preferences. And 'wine education' as it is presented today, only makes matters worse in many cases. Wine experts, writers and bloggers argue over wine characteristics that are clearly perceived differently and this is directly related to the range and intensity of sensations we are physioligically capable of experiencing.

@Landenistim Other than as a partial explanation of variability in tasting preferences, is their any practical value in trying to predict preferences by physiologic testing? Why not just taste wine and decide what you like?
Taste preferences vary due to personal physiology and experience. I suspect that experience is the more important. I wonder if physiologic testing can predict (blind) taste preferences. Doubtful.

@TocMD Yes, physiologic testing can predict preferences when used in combination with psychological elements. We have been working for years and testing the hypothesis that physiological variables have a very important impact on preferences for both wine professionals and consumers and can predict preferences when combined with psychological factors.
