@Jimhupponeword Yes it is. Maybe the competition isn't direct. But when a musician hears a piece that really inspires him, he (usually) strives to create something equal to or greater than the feeling created by the original piece. I'd say actually it's competition, just a very different style. It's competition to make the greatest contribution to the art.
