Kule...you will usually find them on Southerly slopes, but I have found them everywhere from bottom of the mountain to the top and all sides though mostly with south aspect as thats where Deer winter generally

Yeah, I'm from Duncan, but moved to Calgary last fall. Before I moved, a buddy and I trekked up to a heli-slash surrounded by old-growth that we had been eyeing up for years. It was MINT! We found 3 sheds, nothing huge, but I am sure there is the odd giant living up there. I am coming out for a week in August, and we have plans to check out a few high elevation spots for sheds, including one with semi-alpine meadows.... can't wait!

Thanks, I love finding sheds.
Kule you liked it...you are from Vancouver Island and you live in Alberta now?
Hope you get the chance to find some more.

You can find them any time of year...though they freshly drop new ones each year after January usually. I find lots of sheds dropped from years ago...thats why they can be so bleached white and often eaten up by squirrels and other critters.
You want to look in or near to big timber as thats often where Deer winter range.
I have found them in the open where the timber has been logged too.
Good luck to you!

Nice sheds, man! Gotta love those high timber bucks! We found a few decent sheds in some old-growth just before I moved to Alberta, but when I go back for a visit, my buddy and I are heading back there.

When you think you find most of the sheds?

Ha ha ha lol...you couldn't be more wrong. These are from British Columbian Blacktail deer, a sub-species of the Mule Deer. These sheds are from Island Deer averaging in 4 and 5 year olds. Most of our deer only have spikes at a year and a half and weigh about 85 to 100 pounds. Smaller in size and numbers compared to most of the world deer...but harder and funner to hunt!
