I know that you can make comparisons to mary magdalene... she was called a whore and such, portrayed as something less than Jesus to elevate his status. However, this song is about the loss of identity and living in grandeur. The author is telling of a stripper that he has put on a pedestal and made her this holy idol which he worships. It is his only source of self esteem and belonging. He makes his sacrifice to her in dollars.
