Conviction Controversy: Appeal Underway in Life Sentence of Pharmacist Found Guilty of Murder

The case of Jerome Ersland is making national news after the pharmacist was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 16-year-old Antoine Parker. Parker was armed when he entered Ersland's pharmacy in 2009 intending to rob the store. Ersland reacted by grabbing his own firearm and shooting the perpetrator.

The victim's family praised the verdict, shedding tears of relief that their loved one's shooter would spend the rest of his life behind bars. Critics of the decision, however, say that Ersland never should have been tried in the first place and that a law should be on the books protecting business owners' rights to defend themselves.

@eastsidetrap i think that one shot was enough and he should have stopped there but we was caught up in the moment he was obviously scared and confused and he made a bad judgement. but to put him in the same category as a murderer is just insane. worst case senario he should have been charged with manslaughter but in reality there should be no charge what so ever.

@mrsalmon1984 actually jerome ersland is a murderer. when he walked back into the store, he should of called 911. but to turn his back on a kid laying on the ground onconscience and unable to move, then loads up a 2nd pistol and shoots the kid 5x in the stomach, that is cold blooded murder. now the first show jerome ersland did was justified by law. but after that, he cant shoot back if the robber turns his back or runs. oklahomans are just rigid and stupid!

stupid fucken american legal system in australia if the jury thinks a homicide wasn't quite self defense but had fair grounds for it, they convict of defensive homicide, not fucken murder wtf defensive homicide only can get a max of about 15 or 20 years
