theres no accelorometer inside a ps3, misinformed if u think flipping it upside down puts it in any type of mode? fans spin up so u dont burn the cpu right through the motherboard. this is y the ps3 fan is spinning up. the heatsink r designed to LIFT the heat up from the chips, since heat rises, this works well. the fan cools down the heat sinks. since u turned it upside down, the heat doesnt rise to the heatsinks, its doing the opposite, thats y the fans spin fast to keep the chip cool.

Idiot. The PS3 is basically overheating, the CPU is getting close to burning, that's why the fan starts spinning really fast. It can ruin your PS3..
The REAL dust cleaner doesn't involve any turning upside down or not, it's the built-in fan test. Take the disc (if any) out of PS3 (or it'll eject instead of doing the test), turn it off in the back. Stay pressing the eject button and turn it on in the back. After two seconds or so it'll start spinning the fans at top speed for a while.
