"Hollywood" jump (no combat equipment) from a CH-47 Chinook helo during a 1988 peacekeeping deployment/mission in the Republic of Panama. Combination of deployed XVIII Airborne Corps and 82nd troopers.

Please excuse the video quality- I digitized this from a 20 year old VHS cassette that was itself a 2nd or 3rd generation copy I've had since it was made. I added the beginning and end titles and cleaned up the soundtrack as much as possible, but there wasn't much else I am technically savvy enough to accomplish. Thanks.

  • This was at Ft.Kobbie and this was my old unit from Bragg

  • Mine too (hence the tape). Were you in the 118th at the time?

  • I recall a tower at Ft. Kobbe where the 508th was stationed down there. There also was a tower at Sherman when one of the Group's was based there.

  • You may be right- it may have been Sherman. I was only there for four months in '88 and again briefly in late '89, so my memory is useless. We trained at several bases, and I do remember that Sherman was one of them.

  • thats cool, at the end I jumped from that tower, or at least thats where I think I did, was that In Fort Clayton?

  • I believe that was the rappell tower on Fort Clayton, but it's been a long time since that deployment, so I'm not sure. We also did some stuff over at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, but I'm fairly certain the tower at the end of the video was on Clayton.

  • Too much traffic for Sherman...and definitely not Kobbe.

  • It looks like Clayton because the field behind our barracks wasn't that big and we didn't have a grandstand behind homeplate on Kobbe. That is definitely Venado DZ though, none of us will ever forget all that ocean so close to that little strip of earth with a rocky road down the middle. 2/187th abn 85-87.

  • Thanks for downloading. I think it was really in Fort Clayton.

  • hey Greenwoog no i was in the 21st MP Co ABN . 2nd Platoon with Ssg C, Sfc Fernandez . and a few more .

  • this is Kobbie, with out a doubt. the tower did collapse at one point (not the whole thing just part.)

  • You got to love anything with Eye of the Tiger in it. Paratroopers are the best.

  • Pretty sure that's the Clayton tower. I recognize the buildings around it. The one we had at Kobbe wasn't that big, or nice. In fact, it fell on my in '89 during a fast roping session.
