It was -4F when I took this video. Had it not been for the block heater, starting this engine would have been much more difficult.

  • i wonder why kohler stopped using their own engines in their generators

  • My best guess is because John Deere has such a good name they thought it would make their generators sell better. I'm not exactly sure though.

  • Would have never guessed it was that cold by the way it started.

  • nice start but you should have let it run for a bit.

  • wow.... block heater dont really warm the block they just keep the antifreez warm and the glow plugs warm!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i want that engine for my truck.

  • Hate to say this but you dont run a diesel engine for 14 seconds and then shut it back off !!! Just that little bit can ruin it with water damage to injectors and the oil will cut bearings and rings. Yaaaa diesel is expensive but let it do a full warm up before shutting it down. Dont think you would like your girlfriend warming you up for 14 seconds before she walked away ?? hmmmm

    IMHO only

  • @schindlerman96 i bet it was still warm

  • if only ours started that easy. all though ours is about 4 times bigger. our is a John Deere Power Tech. 12.5 liter 500 and some horse. it would even start that easy when it 80 degrees outside.

  • new glow plugs work just fine?.....

  • my 06 international bus that i ride everday started in single digits without being plugged up in 5 Secs or less it probably would start at this temp but it never got that cold

  • If the engine is maintained properly it will start no problem without the block heater, but its still a good thing because it lets the engine warm up faster and keeps emissions low.

  • thats pretty good even though for the engine block heater but you should let it idle for 30secs at least before u shut it down
