  • Trapping does not work. Especcially trapping for that one hit everytime. Then i would go for simple jabs to the head and body and when the oppertunity is there i enter with combinations to head and body to clinch or grappling. But doing these drills and believing in them will get you knocked out.

  • Trapping is one of the best things to do in a street fight. A simple pak sao combined with a straightblust is a very powerful combination. Definitely usable on the street because i've tried it. Thanks to coach Robert for teaching us this tehniques.

  • replying to ledrox comment, stop reading books mate you can tell you have no idea about street fighing or trapping

  • I should add also that in addition to an upright posture, trapping requires one to lower their shoulders exposing the chin and neck. In the training of trapping through chi sao or hubud etc., the practitioner is told to be relaxed/focused etc etc. In a real fight, the last thing you are going to be is relaxed and focused. I found the Crazy Monkey Boxing hunchback stance to be more protective of the body as well as allow more power into punches as the shoulder muscles are bunched up.

  • Even in situations where trapping can be useful: on the ground or in a phonebooth, the amount of trapping techniques required is very small. It's unnecessary to go through the amount of training required by JKD and Wing Chun to train this aspect of fighting. I find clinchfighting to be more useful as more often than not, you'll find yourself getting into a clinch. In a stand-up fight, no one evers stays in punching/trapping range for more than 4 seconds anyway, as its the most dangerous range

  • Trapping in UFC/streetfight is potentially dangerous to the trapper 'cos it requires maintaing an upright posture which exposes the neck & chin. Also, it requires the trapper to throw their arms out in front. If the trap fails, the trapper's now very exposed to counter-attacks, especially from hooks & uppercuts. Another danger comes from what happens when you try to trap and suddenly your opponent closes in: your arms are collapse onto your body and now you are trapped yourself.

  • As Wonderstoned himself points out, trapping only works in situations where the distance between the combatants can be maintained: on the ground and in a phonebooth. It works less well where there is space for either combatant to retreat. This is why in UFC and MMA, trapping doesn't work and is unnecessary.

  • i agree with you but understand that mma guys dont train for it and or to do it. Your not allowed to do a lot of things alos in mma nut i dont believe it works also

  • the fact that no trapping has ever been applied in thousands of mma and vale tudo matches in the last 15 years is a fair amount of evidence that it doesnt work under those rules. Why dont the so called skilled ones show that it works by entering a show.Any jkd or wing chun guy that entered mma ended up looking like a bad kickboxer,it always happens.I guess were still waiting for the great trapper to enter the competition.

  • Styles don't happen on their own; you have to make them happen. And apparently, MMA(the sport) folks don't have that kind of skill. Striking isn't easy to train compared to grappling and fighters undertrain. By that, I mean don't train enough and or don't train correctly.
