@covenstead You're absolutely right on this. John wrote what only a visionary and realistic leader could have written. 40 some years later... and this masterpiece is still current in its message. John is just a little older than I am so, for all those years, we've been telling the world around what and what not..;-)
@rberbill Hot damn. John's 66 now. . but after watching Paul McCartney blow the doors off the stage last summer when Paul was 67, I'm thinking he got rejuvenated. This is great news ! Wonder if they'll reopen the website. I'll pay to see 'em play. Thanks for the heads up.
@kilts4u2 - No they started up again. They played several shows this year and John Kay is now saying he will work till he dies. He also said at our show..."As long as you payin, I will keep playin".
They put on an excellent show when I saw them at the Naperville, IL Ribfest on July 3rd 2010. Based on the e-mails from the group they are seeking new gigs anywhere in the world.
Wow - what an awesome find! I love Steppenwolf - just about everything they've ever written; but ever since the first time I heard this - as a young kid - it's always been my favorite. I think it's an epic rock masterpiece.
Oh, yeah - we backed these guys in concert one time - in the late 70s. We opened, then there was another band called "Paradox," I believe - it's been a LONG time - then Steppenwolf played last. It was one of the highest highs of my life. They're great guys, too...
This is the bands Stairway to Heaven...Hotel California, Dream On (etc). Nothing out there comes close to Patriotism than this rock song.
My name's Jim.....and a 20 year Military Veteran.

@rberbill July 3, 2010? Is this a misprint? Steppenwolf retired as a band after 40 years somewhere around 2007. Am I missing something here.
