Opera singer Grace Bumbry, or as she's known by her nickname "Black Venus", was introduced by
Kennedy Center
Aretha Franklin. Franklin told a story about a legendary Bumbry performance of "The Dance of The Seven Veils", which ended with Bumbry in nothing but her "perfume and jewels." The revelation that the now 72-year-old woman once appeared in her birthday suit at Covent Garden prompted the Queen of Soul to burst out "No you DIDN'T girlfriend!" Romania's Angela Gheorghiu flew to D.C. to honor Bumbry with her own musical tribute.

@corellithebest But you just mentioned Netrebko's name in the same sentence as Callas xD They are both great. Netrebko is very underrated on youtube.

@hammer55292 Yes, but it is so strange that NETREBKO should be rated as number 1 when compared to CALLAS! GHEORGHIU is far closer to CALLAS, and CALLAS and NETREBKO are MILES APART. I would not even mentio NETREBKO's name in the same sentence as CALLAS'S!

What ridiculous arguments about who's number 1... As if this was football or tennis rankings... Get a life people! Angela Gheorghiu is absolutely magnificent!! Amazing voice, great interpretations throughout. She's not Callas, and neither should she be. She's Angela Gheorghiu and that should suffice for anyone who's got any idea of opera.
