A tribute to the artist Andrei Tarkovsky, comparable in stature to Picasso in painting as a 20th Century icon of cinema.

  • Well, a direct answer might be that Picasso, because of his longevity and the complete range of his work, is usually seen as the most influential artist of that century.

I might just add though that much of Tarkovsky's imagery involves the intense symbolism of a moment...so that the mother washing her hair in "Mirror" is entirely comparable to Picasso's "Girl before a mirror" 1936 or "The Dream" 1932...

Its definitely an interesting topic for discussion! Me? I think of Samuel Palmer...you?

  • Comparing Tarkovsky with Picasso it is like comparing apple with cabbage.By the way, Picasso made a lot of bullshits at the end of his career.

  • @coscoduse

I did not compare them artistically, but in "stature" as artists.
