he probably jailbroke it or something and it screwed up iphone 3g is the best phone on the market right now if you havent had one than you dont know how good it is i think personally its better than all the balckberries including the new blackberry which ive used them all and the instinct and the htc touch pro which to me is second best after the iphone

DUDE THAT HAPPENED TO MINE.
it happened when i was in london and i was stressing out big time.
and when i got back to australia i plugged it into itunes and it worked again.
i think i had to restore it

Whats a dfu mode ??. My iphone has got bricked. Theres is absolutley no way to open it. I also cant find the pwnage unlocking software anywhere. please help.

hard reset is like it but once it resets once keep holding it and it will do it again and then it willl go into dfu mode

hard reset? you mean hold the power switch(sleep/wake button)?
I tried it and no it didn't work.
Though I already fixed it by restoring the phone using itunes.
