This looks like it's going to be a good movie.

  • the difference between hotel rawanda abd this film is that hotel rawanda's main character was a black african man, this film i beleive will be just another story of gentle and kind white men helping the "retarded" africans

  • Well, it's entirely possible, I suppose. But I would hope it's more along the lines of how every person can make a difference, and that you should stand up for what you believe in...don't just run and hide when things get tough.

  • you're right, genocide is happening in darfur right now, and it's films like these about past genocides that make real to the public of how painful genocide is, and makes us more likely to want to act to prevent it in the future.

  • Both Hotel Rwanda and Beyond the Gates(Shooting Dogs) are excellent movies. One thing for all who criticize-THEY ARE DIFFERENT!!! One is based on the true stoy about a hotel manager, and it has a true happy ending, while the other is based loosly on the TRUE story of the Murambi Technical School, which, unfortunately, does not have a happy ending. It ends with the massacre of all who sought refuge the the school. Both the school and the foundation of a similar church are now memorials.

  • i just saw this cool movie yesterday!

  • @ajnadeen No this pretty much shows the 'gentle and kind' white man leaving the people to die.

but also showing the good in people (no matter what their colour)

  • If you are interested to see more of what happened in Rwanda, see the movie "Shake Hands with the Devil".

  • @ prepare2eatUrwords

Thanks for spoliing it for anybody that wanted to watch the film you miserable fuck!

  • @ajnadeen Actually this film is more violent, bloodier, and a bit less hollywoodized than hotel rwanda. I don't like the catholicism angle but you can't say that it's not an accurate portrayal of how some missionaries think. I thought the acting was superb by the young teacher and it's worth a watch for that alone. If you want to see the most brutal film done on rwanda as of yet, watch sometimes in April. Still, I think all of them are too tame compared to the real horror.

  • It was actually Belgium that took over Rwanda during the colonizing of Africa and separated the native Africans into Hutu and Tutsi. But I agree it's still horrible none the less.

  • I am so pissed at the French. They go in, mess up the country, they set up a caste system, then they go out and let the natives butcher each other.

  • I watched this movie in my Health class. This movie depressed me so much that I didn't even want to see how people were getting killed for being Tutsis, and the Hutus just harshly kill the Tutsis...no matter who they are. Seeing all the dead on the ground covered with blood. The worse part was how the woman with the baby was killed unfortunately. I realize how precious life is.
