Slate- Pencil Urchin: unlike most urchins that graze algae, the Pencil Urchin has a meaty tooth! For aquarium systems with fishes or invertebrates that are fed meaty fare heavily (mysis shrimp, etc), this type of urchin is very well suited.
Reef keepers with small aquaria or small sessile specimens need to take heed, however, as this species is hardly the most graceful as it cruises about the tank. Excellent for a hearty community tank, the Pencil Urchin can be long lived and, clumsiness aside, is rather "reef safe."
