this video was originally edited to the song "romeo and juliet" by dire straits. i made it before i realized i was romantically doomed - but i can see the writing was on the wall even then. i'm much happier now that i've given up on worrying about whether or not i will ever find true love - but i must admit i feel a certain nostalgia for this video - i rented a beautiful room at the portland white house just so i could make something so romantic. following the making of this video - i began work on my film about marilyn monroe - because this footage precedes that project - i had made no attempt to - look like norma jeane - yet i ended up with about 8 hours of perfectly usable footage from the filming of this video and i hated to let it go to waste - i incorporated almost everything in this actual video (minus the hello kitty diary scene for obvious reasons) and some of the outtakes from it - into my film * star light, star bright * - edited in black and white . . .
. . . . sometimes when i'm being a super perfectionist i regret it just a little - because the style of much of this seems out of place in my film - other times i think it wasn't such a bad choice - norma jeane did a lot of this kind of modeling - so it's not a great stretch of the imagination that i am portraying norma jeane in these scenes (we have a lot in common actually) and in some aspects - i like that there is a bit more of myself in my film - because these scenes represent my own heartbreak on camera more than any other scenes in my film - i was acting in those scenes - this is really me here - and as an artist - i know that's a good thing - and it's my film and i can do whatever i want dammit (o: for better or worse - most of this video - would go on to become my earliest footage in my very first feature film - star light, star bright . . . i returned to the portland white house for the filming of some interior scenes in my film - and i was given access to nearly the entire facility - this bed and breakfast inn has very special filming memories for me - i never did get any sleep during my stay however - too much filming to do!
