The Juggernaut - Part II

Second half of part five of the five part 1915 Vitagraph film "The Juggernaut", which premiered at the Vitagraph Theatre in New York on the 7th of March, 1915.

Starring Anita Stewart, Earle Williams, and William Dunn. Directed by Ralph Ince.

The climactic train crash was filmed in South River, New Jersey on the 27th of September, 1914 on a specially built draw bridge using a retired engine (#56) from the Long Island Railroad. Fifteen cameras were used to shoot the scene, which cost over $25,000 to stage.

It was one of four train crash films produced by Vitagraph around this time and was, according to Albert E. Smith, the best of them, but it was overshadowed by The Birth of a Nation, which came out barely a month later.

That was great. The train crash was filmed in Sayreville New Jersey. I have always wanted to see that.

The RRRR on the canoe was for the Raritan River Rail Road. That was the line that was used for the film.
