Hello sangha!
Are you ready for an in depth interview with one of the foodie communities most outspoken personalities? Well I hope you are, sit back, relax, open your mind and hold on tight because things are about to get interesting.
Brother Echo had the chance to sit down for 30 minutes with Daniel this past week at David Wolfe's Longevity Now Conference in Costa Mesa, California. A lot of people out in the living foods a.k.a. raw food community have been giving Daniel a lot of grief lately because he has personally decided that being a vegan no longer works for him. With that said Daniel has been using some animal products (e.g., colostrum and deer antler) in supplements and he has personally started to consume animal products too.
By the reaction of a lot of people you would think the world is coming to an end, several bloggers and YouTubers have been very outspoken and have taken it upon themselves to demonize one of the people who I consider to be 'genius' or a varsity player when it comes to nutrition and the environment.
Daniel has been a vegan for well over 15 years and it's not as though he's been on the V-train for a year or two, this guy has walked the walk for some time and I think he's earned the right to be heard out and respected even if you don't agree with him.
Personally Brother Echo doesn't subscribe to using animal products but I fully support anyone else who uses them in what I consider to be a humane way. After talking with Daniel it's very clear he's an extremely conscious and grounded man and has done his research thoroughly to make sure his company produces quality products while using animal products with minimal effect on the animals or environment.
I would also like to mention that it is seriously fantasy if we have EXPECTATIONS that this entire world become vegan. I think we would all be better off if we stay focused on ourselves and our immediate families. We need to let our personal feelings about consuming meat and using animal products not get in the way of progress and communication. In this diverse world with billions of people, thousands of cultures we have to understand that even truth is organic and changing, what works for us today might not work for us tomorrow, we cannot afford to cling to any one idea or concept and we cannot afford to hold expectations for our brothers and sisters in our community, expectations are poisonous.
The way our system is setup now with all the inhumane slaughter factories, chicken farms, etc., is clearly wrong but if a man sets out into the forest to hunt and forage bless him let that act be an act of worship and communion with nature.
Please allow me to quote Kahlil Gibran:
"But since you must kill to eat, and rob the young of its mother's milk to quench your thirst, let it then be an act of worship and let your board stand an altar on which the pure and the innocent of forest and plain are sacrificed for that which is purer and still more innocent in many.
When you kill a beast say to him in your heart, "By the same power that slays you, I to am slain; and I too shall be consumed. For the law that delivered you into my hand shall deliver me into a mightier hand."
In this world things aren't always so black and white. In order to truly realize peace, happiness and love for all mankind we must recognize that the rules we construct be they rules about food or how we pray to the divine... these rules or constructions of ideas are by design the very thing keeping us from realizing unconditional love.
UNCONDITIONAL love.
UNCONDITIONAL love.
UNCONDITIONAL love.
I hope that this note and this interview are received in the same way they were manifested with an open mind and heart. We have too much going on in the world to point fingers, place blame or be divided. Let us all realize that within our relatively small foodie world we can reach more people if we are in love with one another all the time unconditionally. Yes that means even if you drink milk, boil eggs or eat honey... unconditionally loving and always listening this is how we must move forward.
If Brother Echo can leave you with one thing today it's "WALK THE WALK" don't talk the talk. If you don't believe in using animal products then don't use them, if you like I don't consume animal products then don't eat animal products... that's all. We don't have to tear our brothers and sisters down for the path they walk on. Let's live through example not by word. As Ghandi said "be the change you want to see in the world".
It's really that simple.
Peace, Love, Unity and Respect.

Really good. I love the comment about elitism and becoming rule oriented and judgmental towards others.

If there's one thing that doesn't change it's that there will always be change. Daniel has changed and we do and will continue to do so. This will happen whether we like it or not. So judging people based on what they eat is absurd.
