Red Arrows Over New York City
Wednesday June 25, 2008

IN THIS VIDEO, watch as the Red Arrows fly a spectacular rolling show performance over New York Harbor for a special crowd gathered at South Beach in Staten Island. The Reds' performance over NYC was their first, and was part of a larger North American goodwill tour, which included airshows in Quebec City, Langley AFB, and Rhode Island, and the NYC performance brought mainly in part by ICAP, which is the world's premier voice and electronic interdealer broker, delivering specialist intermediary broking services to trading professionals in the wholesale financial markets. Despite the fact that it was a private show for the company (and that ICAP had a private party on South Beach, as noted by the large tent you saw in the beginning of the video), it was indeed open to the public to view from the beach or boardwalk. You can see one of my friends, who is a photographer out of the Perth Amboy/Sayreville, NJ area, in some of the shots, as he shot from one of the jetties. Following their performance over Staten Island, the Reds were joined by another Red Arrow, for a couple flybys of the Statue of Liberty as part of a special photo shoot.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the five boroughs of New York City, the bridge you see is the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, which links Staten Island (where the video was shot and the show was focused on) to Brooklyn (out in the distance). You will occasionally see airliners flying low over the show area, but rest assured they were over 3,000 feet up, and the Reds were only allotted airspace up to 2,500 feet. The airline traffic you see is most likely heading into LaGuardia Airport. South Beach, which is one of the few beaches in Staten Island, is a rather small beach in comparison to those in New Jersey and the beaches on Long Island.

Like what you've seen? Well, if you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com . There is also a DVD available to purchase that includes all of the public displays of the Red Arrows during their North American goodwill tour, and it too is available at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

  • Who would dislike this? Only someone who came here specifically to dislike it. Otherwise, everyone here is enjoying the pure brilliant piloting skills on show!

  • @GREATBRITISHGAMER Personally, I like the "Goose" at 13.20-13.23... aside from the Gypo break

  • Goosee Bummppsss!!!!

  • best thing they do is the champagne split! :D

  • Im english, the reds rock. seen them about 10 times. so proud of our armed forces and the Royal Air Force.

  • @softcop123 that sentence would have been wonderful if you hadn't have spelt it 'sez'

  • If you like this, you should have a look at Australia's RAAF Roulette's display team. Inspired by the RAF Red Arrows, the Roulette's do similar formation flying except with a smaller team and turbo prop aircraft, making for a slower, but much tighter performance.
