The album is called "Sometimes I Believe She Loves Me" -- it is on the Arhoolie label and at least part of it was recorded live at the Cabale Creamery coffee house in Berkeley, Calif. in 1964. (Dane was the ex-wife of Rolf Cahn, one of the founders of the Cabale.) The title on the CD is "Jesus Won't You Come By Here". I happen to have been in the audience the afternoon this was recorded. It's at Itunes 2:07 long; another version, 2:27 long, is on the CD "Po Boy". Good luck, and keep playing!

Good job man! And yeah, I can't believe we have another snow day!
Sorry -- that should have been the CD "Po' Lightnin'" for the 2:27 version. And the title is "Jesus WIll You Come by Here" (not "Won't You"). This one opens with a mumbled comment about "the Baptist Convention" and has no Barbara Dane on it, but is a bit fumbled in the playing (he was not a piano player, after all.) The point i was trying to make is that this song was conceived in strict "Baptist tempo" which is a kind of gospel-march tempo. Daddy Stovepipe captures that tempo very well.

Wow... Can I just keep you on hand as my personal blues encyclopedia? You're a wellspring of some very interesting information. Thanks!
and P.S.- Sorry I deleted that last comment, the 'Remove' button and 'Reply' button are too darn close together!

Great going. You're doing really well. Have you heard the version where Lightnin' Hopkins plays it on piano (with Barbara Dane trying to follow him and not qute knowing the lyrics :-) ? That will give you some interesting ideas about where the tempo is coming from -- kinda Baptist and march-tempo-ish.

Thank you once again! No, I haven't heard that version. But I've added it to my 'To Do' list. Where could I get a hold of it, do you know?
