Featuring activist and longtime supporter of the Tibet cause Richard Gere. He is the Founder of the Gere Foundation, an organization that supports humanitarian causes and funds a range of Tibet support groups including International Campaign for Tibet, Tibet Fund, Students for a Free Tibet, and other organizations. In April 2008, Gere spoke to thousands of Tibet supporters in San Francisco at the April 8, 2008 Candle Lights for Human Rights event. He described how in March 2008, a virtual "vortex" opened up when a group of monks demonstrated on the streets of Lhasa and spontaneously brought the world's attention to the Tibet cause. Since then, China has launched an unprecedented "crackdown" on the people of Tibet. There are presently more than 70,000 armed Chinese soldiers deployed in Tibet. Thousands of monks and nuns are missing—and more than two hundred Tibetans have been killed. Listen to Gere imagine a future when China finally wakes up and welcomes the opportunity to begin talks with the Dalai Lama—and to preserve what little remains of an ancient spiritual culture nearing extinction because of China's unjust policies towards an oppressed people.

Gere presents the Tibetan cause like an arrow of truth piercing the bloated gut of delusion. I hope his dream that the Chinese will awaken from their "enchantment" will come true. And I agree that they should talk with the Dalai Lama, and change. Why continue to do reprehensible things when there are other options? Join the human race, for real!
