The sounds were brilliant, not just for the monsters but also those clanking gates, echoing wind and sinister grating noises. Quake's Ogres could kick Shrek's arse anyday!

theres something about the first quake that I love, to this day I have never had more fun with another fps. Just the atmosphere, the sounds, the enemies and bosses are all amazing.
