Odetta was immensely talented but I don't think she's suited to this song at all. I'm not really impressed by this cover and am suprised at everyone's rave reviews.

It was originaly done by woody guthrie, it is my duty as an oklahoman to know, look into him he was a RAD ass dude for his time.

This is just incredible. I've never heard this song sung with such raw emotion and good God, but this woman really does use her voice like an instrument. What a sad loss she is

Thanks for the reference about Clarence Ashley and Gwen Foster, I didn't know this song was so old and always related it to The Animals. Great!

It's not originally by Bob Dylan, though he did perform it on his first album. The original artist remains unknown.
