Shelia is the author of 5 highly successful Christian romance novels. She is a native Memphian and shares her story of how she started writing after the brutal murder of her fiancé. Shelia talks about how important is was for her to find a way to deal with and channel the anger and depression she was feeling. She shares how the daily practice of journaling can be therapeutic and may also lead to a fulfilling career as a published author.
Shelia discussed the advantages and disadvantages of self publishing versus the traditional route of finding a publisher. She also talked about the challenges of produces a great story and the value of having a professional editor edit you book as oppose to having a friend or a relative edit for you. We talked about character development and the flow of scenes in a story which can make or break a book's potential. She encouraged future writers to seek out workshops and writers conferences to help them publish books that will sale and entertain their readers.
We talked about her favorite characters and how they come to life in each of her books. And we laughed about how she secretly chooses the titles before she ever writes a story line.
