A Variation on the theme of Mulberry Days.

Once upon a time, [1991] the BBC had a subtle sitcom called Mulberry days. Our local PBS has currently resurrected it, and I remembered the theme music as a musical worm from sixteen years ago as being simple, but very pretty as a melodic line. Thus this somewhat singular variation.
It was a quirky story about a manservant, [Mulberry] who is in fact, an apprentice Grim Reaper who has come to the grand house to usher Miss Farnaby into the next world, but in a happy way. To me, the content and music qualifies as to [or being capable of] becoming English Folklore ~ perhaps ~ maybe ~ a century hence.[t.i.c.]
You folks are lucky I do not sing ~ here are the lyrics for you to sing and fit into the tune :)

Some say they touch the Sky
Some say they see the Wind,
A whisper of Spring is near,
Can you hear it say
These are Mulberry days ?

Some say they'll understand
Some hold an open hand,
A shimmer of moonlit haze,
Can you hear it say
These are Mulberry days ?
These are Mulberry days.

  • I commented before on this, but I felt it necessary to comment again. I need to order this programme on dvd - and I was telling my wife about my remembrance of the show and what I knew about it, which wasn't much ... but I DID remember the theme song. And I remembered how calming the show felt to me...even in Texas. So I was trying to explain the premise & I said, well listen to the theme song. So I had to punch up Your version of the theme! Such beautiful playing. Thank you.

  • like this song you have a crazy pinky like m e

  • Brilliant! Great job, it's a great variation of the show's theme song! I loved the show and the music, I miss it, wish it would get another run again! Thanks for posting, God Bless!:)

  • Very nice Russell, sets a nostalgic mood. Yes, that is a sweet show. It has had a few runs here in Buffalo NY.

  • Thank you so very much for this! Your version is timeless...as is the acoustic guitar. Damn fine version, if not better than the programme's version. If only you'd have sung the lyrics...I'm sure it would have been great! Thanx for posting. Take care, from Texas. - Johnny

  • Very nice and clean. Well done!
