  • As much as I like western railroads, eastern railrods have their own flare to them as well. After all, the most famous American steam locomotives were the New York Central Hudsons and Pennsy K4's. Right? Also, The N&W was the last railroad to use steam in regular service in America. So their is a good poiint for the N&W.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

  • Better question is, who doesn't?

  • @spacewizard1 wrong place for musicvery bad...............

  • @criind The NKP ran steam for a LONG time long after the other roads quit..

  • @MUEagle2002 A Nickel Plate or Pere Marquette berkshire could out pull 4449 or 261 with ease. Maybe not with the same speed, but close.

  • @MUEagle2002 N&W had some of the most powerful and efficient steam locomotives ever built, and they were home built at Roanoke. Say that one engine beats another one is the wrong way to go about it. Steam locomotives were each built for a specific purpose. The 611 was built to haul passenger trains in the mountains of the Virginias. 4449 and 261 did have mountains anywhere near that big to deal with.

  • beautiful steam engine :)

  • @David245611... N & W is popular where I live, but my heart is with Milwaukee Road and Northern Pacific steam. I'll take a NP Z Class Challenger anyday over a Class A :-P

  • @MUEagle2002 no way the N&W had steam longer than most railroads. N&W forever!

  • they should make the 1218 and the 611 pull Amtrak Trains on the RF&P Subdivision

  • i love all of these legendary steam engines including N&W, and union pacific as well as southern pacific, steam engines period are the icons of railroading.

  • 1218 is a beast!
