These are some stretching exercises which can assist in alleviating lower back pain by looseningmuscles through the lower back and more importantly through the legs. A lot of lower back painic caused by tight hamstrings dragging on the lower back.

  • Finally a good video in order to stretch my hamstrings and my back! How long should I hold al the stretches? About a minute for each side?

  • @mwmiggels 15-30 seconds should do the trick. Really try to let yourself relax into the stretches, and don't force them. The longer you hold the more your muscles should release into the stretch.

  • thank you thank you thank you!! this actually worked for me!!!

  • @iamtheyikes I'm glad you found it beneficial. :)

By 'heavy lifting' do you mean weight-lifting or just lifting cargo/other stuff? Just do the exercises in this and the "fitball lower back strength" vids and you'll be fine. Also make sure you have proper form (straight back and tightened abs as a rule of thumb) whenever lifting.

  • Im 20 years old and has back pain from heavy lifting ar a early age. Any suggestions?

  • Boom.

  • @vergilandnero (comment re-written so it can be understood) Hi team stealth, I crack my lower back a lot but want to stop. Are these stretching and strengthening exercises beneficial for that?

  • Lots of these crack your lower back.

  • I use those a lot and it works. For the hamstring stretch I like to use a rubber band or a rolled towel; that way you dont have to contract your quads to lift the leg. Thus relaxing your leg muscles completely, the stretch becomes more effective. Don't forget to exhale while you stretch.

  • this is a good video but i would advise anyone with lower back pain to go to a physio 1st before trying any stretching,i have been getting trouble with my lower back for a few weeks and was at a very good physio this morning,my back pain was stemming from my hips and the lack of flexibility in them through years of working on roofs,IFA is the term he used,i was given 5 stretches to do every day for the next week before i go back.sorry for rabbiting and good luck to everyone!

  • Excellent video - concise, friendly and helpful. Many thanks.

  • @elimar008 I agree. Back problems are not necessarily caused by a lack of flexibility. Most who are in reasonable health are flexible enough. Problems normally arise from poor-posture and muscle imbalances. Someone with a bad back would probably benefit more from strengthen the torso muscles and doing corrective exercises to promote good posture, but again, nobody can prescribe anything without examinating the problem.
