    Back in the day, the second part was true. It no longer is, if you spend more than a hundred bucks.

    The first part never was, aside from some design choices mostly forced by the common form factor and usage model.

    You haven't considered the time before these updates were implemented. Apple invented the GUI that android now adopt, take a look at some of the earliest android phones and they in fact resemble blackberrys! Sure alterations between the two have been exchanged, but the android platform is undeniably based upon iOS.
