Considering smoke to be a solid (NaCl(s)) is unsafe. For example, Solid NaOH crystals are a low laboratory hazard but NaOH fumes are more deadly than chlorine itself, so you see the problem of writing it down as NaCl(s) without any safety warning to the class...
