The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer who operated in Northern California in the late 1960s. The Zodiac killer's identity remains unknown. The Zodiac killer coined the name "Zodiac" in a series of taunting letters sent to the local Bay area press. These letters included four cryptograms (or ciphers), three of which have yet to be solved.

The Zodiac murdered victims in Bencia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco between December 1968 and October 1969. Four men and three women, between the ages of 16 and 29, were targeted. Numerous suspects have been named by law enforcement and amateur investigators, but no conclusive evidence has surfaced.

In April 2004, the San Francisco Police Department marked the case "inactive", yet re-opened the case at some point prior to March 2007. The case also remains open in the city of Vallejo as well as in Napa Counties and Solano Counties. The California Department of Justice has maintained an open case file on the Zodiac murders since 1969.

  • He must have been a real loser as he thought humans as the most dangerous, but how are they dangerous when he has a gun and they're just teenagers?

  • @guitarplayer4real That sucks.

  • @wowwt Someone should.. My verbage and vocabulary arent good enough for anything like that, I wish it were.

  • @guitarplayer4real You should write a book about that.

  • That killer never spoke, taunted or left a good clue. His victims were left somewhat mutilated and/ or tied up etc and certain things would be left and/ or missing. Very strange stuff.

Anyhow, if you like reading and sleuthing.. The lady who lived 3 miles away where 3 of this guys bodies were found has a website dedicated to the evidence. you can see just how little they had on such a huge baffling case, that whole time was bizarre! Did I forget the Hillside rapist in Marin in the 70's!?

  • And sorry, at second glance I was kind of condescending and didnt mean to be. I've been following this for a while now but dont know it all:-)

  • @wowwt Here's some more:-) In Santa Rosa at that time (my hometown) there were several serials running amok. The Manson family, Ted Bundy, the Zodiac and there were other wierd things to do with occult. Look up the Hitchhiker murders in Santa Rosa. This leaves another, and IMO worse killer never found. They tried to pin them on Z and Bundy. This guy killed atleast 6 young girls, 2 were taken a block from my home. Their bodies found 3 miles away! Case just reopened I hear like 40 years later.

  • @guitarplayer4real Cool story bro.

  • @wowwt Afraid you are wrong. Arthur Leigh Allen, who was my fathers neighbor in Santa Rosa by the freaky way... Was dismissed entirely based on several counts, DNA being the main one.

C14 said it, he will probably never be found or has died and took it to his grave. However, there is still forensic hope if just one gun, zodiac garment or piece of clothing or a fingerprint which are many on file are ever matched. It could happen but getting more doubtful all the time.

  • Problem with this case is Zodiac won over the people. 2,000 suspects interviewed. People saying they're Zodiac. This case parallels the Boston Strangler. DeSalvo admitted to bein the Strangler but family members of the victims dis agreed. Zodiac will never be found.
