Check out my daughters video page to see other videos of her racing http://www.youtube.com/jweeks7 This is my daughter Jennifer and her Horse Max doing the flag race. No slowing down, or stopping. Way To Go Jenn and Max! FIRST PLACE AGAIN!!!

Rules of the race:
There are different versions of flag race. This is how we do it. First you have a stick with a flag. The flag can be cloth or plastic. Three barrels are set up in the cloverleaf pattern. Then two five gallon buckets are put on two of the barrels one on either side of the arena. The rider tells the ring steward what side they want to pick the flag up on. The rider picks up the flag at the first barrel and goes around the top barrel and then drops it in the bucket on the third barrel.
You have to do this in the quickest time. If you stop forward motion your disqualified. If you miss the flag when picking up or dropping off the flag your disqualified. You cannot break pattern and go back and get the flag to either pick it up or drop it off. If you do your disqualified. Most people slow down or even trot or walk when they go to pick up and drop off the flag. Not many people can go full speed and pick up and drop off the flag without missing the flag for pick up or missing the bucket dropping it off.
One more thing. The flag has to be flag up in the bucket. If you put the flag portion down into the bucket your disqualified.

  • this...is awesome. I would have broken a finger or a flag...or something going that fast, you didn't even check your horse up passing them...hahaha, you have mad skills.

  • @SpiritHorsePro That is why I always enjoyed watching my daughter race. She never slowed down to pick up the flag or when dropping it off. I don't think I every saw her miss either. Once she had the flag bounce back out and land sideways on top of the bucket (never fell off the bucketl) and they disqualified her because it wasn't in the barrel flag up.

  • @PaintedHorseLover nope I totally agree with you - its not easy at all - I game in all my english tack simply because it is easier for me for keep my heels down because its what im most comfortable in and used to :) but i def agree that its not easy. your daughter looks awesome :) i just read your comment wrong and thought that you were trying to say "english horses" couldn't do it thats all :)

  • @ponyjockey206 ValtronW made a comment to my video that my daughter needed to have her heels down toes up. And I asked her/him what their credentials were to make a comment like that on my daughters way of riding.

  • @ponyjockey206 That is what I was trying to say to the post from longtimestuklat. Not that an english horse can't run barrels. I was trying to make a point that when running barrels it isn't easy to have heels down toes up and most barrel riders do not run this way like an english horse/rider doing jumps and flat work.

  • @PaintedHorseLover But "english horses" can do it - check out my vidoes - we just got finished competing in the PA Flag Racing Finals a week ago. We've gotten 17 second barrel runs...just because he's an "english horse" doesn't mean he can't do barrels or flag racing or anything gaming horses do..he just sucks at poles! lol

  • @PaintedHorseLover Okay, I'm not trying to start any fight but I just wanted to point out that you act like "english horses" can't do barrels...you might want to check your facts about that - my main reason for saying this is because I have what you would describe as an "english horse" im assuming because he's my jumper/eventer...but we also do gaming and polocrosse and flat/jump racing. I know for a fact its not easy to always have your heels down when gaming.

  • @PaintedHorseLover That's funny. Bummer about the DQ

  • lol this was a hardcore run hahaha
