Coventry Cathedral Choir - Gloria in Excelsis Deo

Live Christmas Eve service, 1988. This is really unusual. I think you'll like it. This has got to be right up Libera's street. I'm sure if they hear it, they'll want to give it their treatment... if it's not too tricky even for them! Beautifully melodic in the middle, though the cameras unfortunately zoom in on Coventry's ugly art.

Fantastic! I love it when a choir takes a risk on a piece like this and is rewarded for their effort with such a sound as this. It takes a talented director and a wonderful choir to navigate 'unusual' material just as well as traditional fare. Bravo to Coventry.

Around 2.29 the tone of the piece takes a turn, going from African to a more traditional European sacred sound; then at 3.10 returning to the African rhythms.

I knew it had to be Paul Wright. I enjoyed an evening concert of Sar Wars music Paul palyed on the catherdal organ in 1980.I knew he had moved on to Durham, I think, nice to find out were he is.

i was in the choir at this time, the composer was the conductor and choir master, Paul Leddington wright, as far as i know he is still a musical director with the BBC. Hope that helps if you are still looking. His arrangements of many works are really quite impressive.

we did a stuff like that with my boychoir for the feast of christ the king 4 yers ago at st nicolas cathedral and the bischop Montreux was very angry after the music director saying that was not dign and canned not take place during th holy mass!!
