On 16 June 2010, NewcastleGateshead city development company, 1NG, launched the 1PLAN -- a 20-year economic and spatial masterplan for NewcastleGateshead.

The1PLAN looks at the economy, people and place and sets out a vision for the future to improve NewcastleGateshead's competitiveness, where businesses can grow and flourish and a knowledge-based economy can transform the urban core.

Although launched in a very challenging economic climate, the plan positions NewcastleGateshead's routes for future prosperity over the next two decades and prepares the destination to be at the forefront, ready for market recovery. It has the full support from all the partners involved: Gateshead Council, Newcastle City Council, One North East and the Homes and Communities Agency and today marks the official handing over of the document.

  • Gateshead may very well gain city status in its own right. If the Gateshead proposal is successful, where will that leave Newcastle?

Newcastle has the airport, but Gateshead is only a metro ride away.

  • Its about the the 2 areas dont be so short sighted yes Newcastle is the city we understand its the biggest part of it but Gateshead has a lot to offer so think about it as a whole because its Gateshead that has the sage the millenium bridge the angel the metro centre the baltic the international stadium the best victorian park in britain

  • A commendable film, but PLEASE drop the Newcastle Gateshead title, it's Newcastle that has the geographic understanding around the world, let's not confuse the message with political need.
