Do you have a source for this claim? I'm no expert, but the October '07 National Geographic provides a fantastic article on biofuels and, though I agree that many of these fuels are not the answer, the article shows a production/output energy ratio for corn ethanol at 1/1.3 and Biodiesel at 1/2.5 Neither is ideal, but they both require less energy to produce than they return. The savings in greenhouse gas emissions, too, are significant compared to convential gas and diesel... Nuclear = Yuck :)
Good speech but he's wrong about biodiesel/ethanol. More oil gets consumed by farm machinery, pesticides and fertilizers to produce it than the energy you get in return. Nuclear and solar are the only viable options.
