We could get rid of cash and use gold and silver, or go back farther and use that with along with precious stones like diamonds and ruby's.. but then again the only people using that means of trade would be 'the elite' once again and the poorer people would be trading goats and cattle! No matter what you do the rich will trade with larger bills, or bigger jewels, and the others will stick with livestock or labor. There has to be trade for goods!
