====================================

Screenwriter Hudson Milbank suffers from acute depersonalization disorder. So alienated from his own life that he makes the chronically depressed look perky, Hudson lives alone, watches The Golf Channel all day, can't hang on to a relationship, shoplifts in order to get his adrenalin up off the floor, fears that thinking about his dad's death will bring it to pass, loathes his mother, and in general, is as nutty as a crapshack in a peanut farm.

Obsessed with the underlying sadness that infuses his wretched existence, Hudson is a man in hell, but he thinks that his long catalogue of dismally unsatisfying and mutually self-destructive relationships is over when SARA stumbles into his life. He knows she can save him. She knows he has to save himself. Together they save each other.

And it's funny too.

  • What? I have depersonalization, and it would fucking hurt if a fork got jammed in my eye. It's a dissociative disorder, not some kind of weird morphine trip. I get so pissed when people think they understand depersonalization, when in actual fact they don't. 0:24 is so annoying to watch. It's not like being drunk. The room doesn't spin, and people don't sound like idiots when they talk to you. >.<

  • like this comment if you DONT experience these symptoms like cloudy, foggy feeliing, cartoon, out of body and stuff but you know you suffer from DP, cuz you've been watching yourself doing things and you've been thinking 24x7x365. cuz the mind is not at rest..

  • @MrArlexin Extremely well said! I wish more people knew about the truth of existing with DPD. Thank you for explaining so well to those who do not have this what it is. Peace be with you!

  • In fact the state you live in has nothing to do with funny things. I mean, this movie is a comedy and a bit funny but the truth is you feel more anxiety than anything else. It's important to note the detachment between your sensations inside and the exterior. This is hard to explain but you feel really alone, cut and misunderstood. You doubt and constantly question. Your perception of time is also altered a bit and you want to rest but you cannot. It's like watching yourself living on instinct.

  • @SongBillong The screenwriter or whatever it's called in English, has been diagnosed with clinical depression and DPD so I think it's pretty accurate. Accurate to HIS illness because not every illness is the same, simply because mind is much more complicated than you think it is. :)

  • @StreamFeverNZ Perhaps it was an overdramatization of what someone might feel like on an anti-psychotic - creative licensing with a movie is after all, king. I know there are times when pain seems distant to me, but obviously no fork is getting near my friggin eye

  • ughhhh its sad that alot of ppl get trampled from all these symptoms and think they are brain damaged which unfortunately is a pretty sane way of seeing things

  • understand what is going on with body and mind.

  • Just remember that you are going crazy, we all are, unless we fight the obsessiveness of our thoughts, are daily routines, and our own sanity in question. You just have to keep in mind that what you are experiencing is a reaction your body is creating from the thought that you are loosing it. Its a mindfuck because action and reaction totally feed on eachother the symptoms of DP can be horrid making you panic and then the cycle continues... You have to just accept what is happening and truely...

  • DP and DR is just a reaction from the body due to stress, obsessions, and anxiety. I am 100% certain it is from a chemical imbalance in the brain, but get this, the imbalance is created from the stressors in your life! Its crazy to think that stress can cause so many problems becuase we all think that mental illness just happens and we have no control over it. If you go through life and dont understand what DP and DR really is then your going to end up crazy thinking you have no control. cont.

  • It's not really depersonalisation. Even in this trailer, it shows him driving a car and that is something that scares me so much. I don't feel like I'm in control. My autopilot does everything physical for me, although even that doesn't work sometimes so I can sometimes be completely out of control. 'Numb' isn't about depersonalisation, or if it is, it's not very accurate...

  • I just found out that I have this disorder from reading about Benn Jordan. In the past I've described it as being like watching what I'm doing in the first person, from a TV in front of me. It usually happens while I'm doing things I used to enjoy, like vacation or holidays, and it fucking sucks.
