A Walk Around The Oktoberfest, Munich, 2005

The Munich Oktoberfest is more than just drinking beer, although there is a lot of that; extra strong and sold in heavy litre (2 pint) glasses called a Maß. There are a dozen or so beer 'tents', the largest being able to hold over 10,000 people seated at tables. Visitors over the two weeks of the fest are numbered in millions, and statistics about the quantity of beer, roast chickens and wurst consumed are equally impressive. More incredible is that it is all temporary - the whole site is just a flat area of ground a few weeks later, until the Xmas Markets are built there.
