Help me get into X-Men & the Marvel universe as a whole.

The title is pretty self explanatory but sumed up i need advice on where to get started on getting into the Marvel universe. My interest in X-Men started when i was just a small child, watching the early 90's cartoon series. As i grew older i completely forgot about it, untill recently. Thank's to the Marvel Vs Capcom game series my interest in Marvel has been growing massively and i now have reached the point where i feal like i need to build my knowlage of the marvel universe.

I need your help. Any information you could possibly give me to help my journey into the Marvel universe easyer will be greatly appreciated.
Suggest Characters, Films, Comics, TV series, Art, Graphic novels or evan Web Pages. I'm willing to look into anything.

Look up important events and back stories of characters. Find one character you like, focus on them and then that will lead you to other characters. look up the Mutant massacre. This is an important event and it will be a great starting point for you.

The X men universe is an awesome, albeit vast universe. I would advise to start with the films, games and then enjoy the comics.

I'm not sure if it fits the category but you should get X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it's like a really brutal hack n' slash and it's awesome. I could sell it to you actually, getting rid of my games. Dx
