This cool-looking bird (Violaceous Turaco) flew right up and landed on a sign only a few feet away, as if to say "Hey - take some video of me!", or more likely "What have you got to eat?"! Even though visitors aren't supposed to feed the animals, it's apparent that many people do, so some of the birds associate people with food and come looking for free handouts from visitors :-)

Filmed with a trip-mounted Canon HF100 HD camcorder. The music is an excerpt from "The End of Summer" by Technician (yours truly)

  • @shaocaholica Interesting - I've some pretty unusual stories about these birds since I filmed this one and posted it here! Thanks for watching and commenting =)

  • This same bird came up close and regurgitated a berry for me

  • @jcmegabyte no serious damage. just a few scratches that was about it. But you could be right, could be mating season because the SAME bird tried to attack my friends cousin when she went a couple weeks later

  • Wow! I am surprised to hear that! :-O This particular bird seemed fairly tame (making it easy to film) but would move away if approached. I wonder if it was perhaps mating season or something during your visit, and the bird was being territorial... Hard to predict what animals will do sometimes. I hope there wasn't any serious damage!

  • I saw this bird last time I went, he ended up attacking a friend of mind who was just checking him out.

He didn't even try to provoke the bird in anyway

  • Thanks so much! =D

  • Fajne

  • I don't think so, although this was the only one I saw in the Aviary, and all the photos I could find show the males and females looking pretty much the same.

  • Thanks again for attention and kind words :-) Cheers!

  • voler comme un oiseau!!!!!!!!

    le reve!

    bisous
