I get how this works, but don't you have to have a really powerful laser to create beams that funky looking and visible? How is this safe without protective eyewear? They tell you not to look into the ones at the Target checkout counters, so how do these guys compare?
I don't really know a lot about lasers, maybe I'm full of crap.
Sorta... more like photo-optic switches... like a security beam.. blocking the light closes a photo cell that triggers a response...almost like a key on a synthesizer. The beam as a string DOES look much cooler to perform on instead of some dude standing behind a bunch of ugly machines. =) The beams themselves don't produce the sounds although light DOES trigger a response if a solar cell is used in place of a microphone element. Sounds kinda like static
