I'm doing an a capella of this song at a charity show in a local coffee house soon, and this guy's voice is what influenced the voice I've come to use. =)

@chevroletman1991 No, sorry, I have to disagree. If there's one thing they DO understand (besides making damn good music) is people. Their fans are everything, they say so time and time again. No, their not Skynard, their freakin SHINEDOWN, and this song is a true tribute in every sense.

@skintoaster maybe, but this is skynyrd's song. just because ronnie went home to Heaven does not mean that it is not their song anymore. this song will always live on the shoulders of skynyrd, along with all of their other songs, including the whole band itself. skynyrd had something that shinedown and most other bands do not have. they understood people and connected with people much better than any other band i have ever heard of. i like shinedown too, but skynyrd is a legacy.

As one of very few people that I know personally who had the HONOR and PRIVELAGE of witnessing the original Lynyrd Skynyrd line-up with Ronnie Van Zant perform this song live in Nashville, Tn. in 1977, just month's before their plane crash, let me just say that I believe Ronnie wrote one of the most powerful song's ever in Simple Man. The song is just still too relevant today to not be covered by others. So I salute Brent Smith and Shinedown for having the balls to record an amazing cover!!
